Quick Answer
To start your Somerset Patriots commemorative pin collection, choose a theme that excites you, pick a mix of milestone and novelty pins, and store them properly to keep them in top condition.
Why Commemorative Pins Make Great Collectibles
Commemorative pins are a compact way to celebrate team milestones and express your fandom. They don't take up much space, and they can be displayed on hats, lanyards, or framed boards. For a minor league team like the Somerset Patriots, the New York Yankees Double-A affiliate, pins often mark special seasons or fun collaborations, giving each piece a story.
Choosing Between Milestone and Novelty Pins
Milestone pins, like the 2022 Eastern League Champions pin, capture a specific achievement and are often sought after by fans who want to remember a historic season. Novelty pins, like the Marvel Inspired Superhero Logo pin, add personality and are great for casual collectors or gifts. Decide what appeals to you more: a timeline of team accomplishments or a mix of fun designs. Many collectors enjoy both, so you can start with one and add the other later.
How to Start Your Somerset Patriots Pin Collection
- Define your collection theme: Decide whether you want to focus on championship milestones, player tributes, or fun novelty designs. This helps you avoid impulse buys and keeps your collection cohesive. Checkpoint: Does each pin you buy fit your chosen theme?
- Choose your first pins: Start with a mix of a milestone pin and a novelty pin to see which style you enjoy most. For example, the 2022 Eastern League Champions pin celebrates a team achievement, while the Marvel Inspired Superhero Logo pin adds a lighter touch. Checkpoint: Are you buying pins that you'll be excited to display?
- Handle and store your pins properly: Keep pins in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight to prevent fading. Use a dedicated pin display board or case to avoid scratches and dust buildup. When attaching to fabric, use a backing to prevent loss. Checkpoint: Are your pins protected from moisture and UV light?
- Expand your collection over time: Keep an eye out for new releases and special event pins. Since the Patriots are the Yankees' Double-A affiliate, they may release pins for promotions or themed nights, so check the team store regularly. Checkpoint: Have you set a budget to avoid overspending on new additions?
